Family Program schedule for Winter/Spring 2011

Toddler Time:   Wednesdays, January 12 – April 27th,  10:00-10:20am

For Toddlers with an accompanying adult.

A storytime especially for babies and toddlers emphasizing simple concepts, patterns, and unconditional acceptance. We stress “I Love You” rituals that help optimize your child’s brain for success at school and in life. This 20 minute program includes books, songs, finger plays and flannel board stories.

No registration required. Closed April 13 Thomas Jefferson’s Birthday.

Preschool Storytime:  Weds, January 12 – April 27th, 10:30-11am

For ages 3-5

An independent activity for children ages 3-5. This 30 minute program of books, songs and flannel board stories introduces more complex concepts and ideas, increases vocabulary, improves listening skills and promotes reading readiness.

No registration required. Closed April 13 Thomas Jefferson’s Birthday.

Thursday Afternoon Adventures

For 5-10 year olds. Thursdays, 3:30-4:30 PM.

Listen to the story and then do a fun and creative project.

Registration required and limited to 15 participants.

Parents are welcome to join the activity.

Family Fun Time!

These programs are suitable for school age children with their parents.

For the week of January 10 - 14, each day from 3:30 to 4:30 PM

Snuggle up and be ready to laugh as Evelyn Edson, author, historian, teacher and mom extraordinaire reads aloud the classic chapter book Cheaper by the Dozen by Frank B. Gilbreth.

 

Wednesday, April 6, 10 AM

Wildlife Center: Birds of Prey

What makes birds of prey such successful hunters?  Learn about the fantastic tools these magnificent predators have and discover what they can teach us about the world they inhabit.

 

Tuesday, April 12, 6:30 – 8 PM

For Young Adults, Parents and Grandparents

Remember and enlarge your love of the richness and rewards of picture books; learn their history and how to use them.  With Joanne Washington, Librarian at Fluvanna County High School

Celebrate Earth Day

Plant a tree at the Library.

January 31 – Read The Adoration of Jenna Fox by Mary E. Pearson

March 28 – Read one of our great photography books like Digital Photo Madness!  Bring your camera, meet and discuss ideas with local photographer Chris Hogger.

April 18 – Discuss our YA Collection titles and make a Wish List.

 

 

Tangles UnRaveled

Creative, inspiring and useful projects for 11-18 year olds.

Mondays, 5 to 6:45 PM

Registration required and limited to 15 participants.

January 10 – Stop, Look and Listen. How YOU can Make a Difference in Scottsville.

February 7 – Meet at the Scottsville Museum for a Private Tour.

February 14 – Paintings from the Heart.

March 7 – Knitting, Crocheting and Crafts

March 21 – Who was Virginia Moore? A talk by Scottsville native, local historian,

former mayor and magician, Robert K. Spencer.

April 11 – Profile Scottsville on Facebook with your Collected Work
